Best Gifts For Hosts

If you will be a guest either over Thanksgiving, Christmas, or anytime really, you should be sure to bring (or buy) your guest a thank you gift. It can be difficult to think of the perfect gift, but here are some starting points:

Wine

Wine

Wine is an excellent hosting gift. Even if your hosts don’t drink wine, they can use it in cooking. This is something you should get before you go (even if it is on the way to their house or at the airport) as your guests may open it on the first dinner, which is typically the one that the host puts the most work into. Ideally you can bring a bottle of red and white but be sure to pick the kind most preferred by your guest. If you don’t know, go with a red. Also, try to go to a specialized wine shop where you can ask a staff member about highly rated wines to bring.

Flowers

I prefer bringing flowers over a potted plant. I know a potted plant will last longer. I also know that some people have allergies to mold which can be commonly found in potted plants. As such, I would stick with the flowers. Plus, fresh flowers always look beautiful. Most people have a vase but you may want to get a cheap glass one in addition in case they do not. Ikea has very affordable glass vases.

Coffee and French Press

Coffee

It’s probably a good idea to bring some freshly ground coffee as you will likely be enjoying your guests. It is a good idea to bring along a French press. These are lovely to use and in the event your guest sticks to single serving pods and does not have a coffee maker, they can still get some use out of the coffee.

Coffee Table Book

If you know your guests fairly well, you should try to get a large coffee table book for them regarding a subject matter that is of interest. Large bookstore chains typically carry beautiful large books, if you are unsure, go with a book featuring landscapes or rare animals. This is something that your guests can have to keep other future guests entertained.

Candles

Beautifully scented candles are a wonderful gift. Be sure not to get something too strong. A spa like scent will surely be enjoyed. My personal favorite is Jo Malone. There are some more budget friendly options – be sure to choose a variety with grass or lavender.

Large Serving Plate or Bowl

A beautiful large serving plate or bowl is likely to be a hit with anyone who has larger than a 500 sq ft condo. And even then it is a likely winner. Most people typically do not purchase beautiful serving wear for themselves but appreciate it nonetheless.

You won’t be able to get this until you arrive. Causally ask what their favorite restaurant is and pop out when you have some free time to get a gift card for a meal for two.
